Donald Harris: A legend remembered

Donald Harris, the incumbent District 1 commissioner for Morgan County and a beloved public servant, died of cancer on Dec. 6.Harris left behind his wife Geraldine and son Donald.Born Feb. 2, 1948, Harris was a native of Morgan County and a graduate of Pearl High School.

BOC approves event facility for safari park

During last Tuesday's meeting, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners green-lit plans for an event facility at the Georgia Safari Conservation Park (GSCP) in Madison.According to the Planning Commission’s report, the park submitted a conditional use request for an event facility in 2015.

With retired educators in attendance, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners designated Nov. 3 as Retired Educators Day with a proclamation during its meeting on Oct. 15.The proclamation followed Gov. Brian Kemp’s lead.

Morgan to get behavioral health site

Morgan County residents will soon have access to an Advantage Behavioral Health site within the county.During its Sept. 3 meeting, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved a lease for Advantage to rent out space at the FSA building located at 205 East Jefferson St., Madison.

Morgan BOC approves OpenGOV software package

During its Aug. 20 meeting, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of an all-in-one software package for the planning and code enforcement departments.The commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of OpenGOV’s software at a cost of $70,150.

Morgan BOC rolls back millage rate to 9.686 mills

The Morgan County Board of Commissioners has set the FY24 millage rate at 9.686 mills, a full rollback from last year’s rate of 9.99 mills.The BOC voted 3-1 to approve the millage rate at its Aug. 6 meeting.District 2 commissioner Blake McCormack cast the dissenting vote.
