Bill Kurtz, the chairman of the Morgan County Board of Commissioners who was just sworn in for his second term as District 5 commissioner, has tendered his resignation.
“After careful thought and due consideration, I find it necessary to resign my position as District 5 commissioner for Morgan County effective immediately,” Kurtz wrote in a public statement dated Jan. 9.
“Over the last four years in office, I have had the privilege to serve my constituents with integrity and with a sense of accomplishment,” continued Kurtz. “I truly appreciate the many conversations and the constant messages of encouragement and support from those both inside and outside of my district. It has been an honor to serve what I believe is the greatest county in the State of Georgia. While I close this chapter in my book, I look forward to opening the next chapter and seeing many of you along the way.”
Following the recent death of District 1 Commissioner Donald Harris, Kurtz’s resignation leaves the board with three commissioners.
“Commissioner Kurtz was a fine man. He was a gentleman. He was a professional,” District 3 Commissioner Ben Riden said about working with Kurtz. “I truly enjoyed serving with him while he was there, and his leadership will be missed greatly.”
