Town Walk site amendment approved

The Madison City Council awarded a contract to low bidder Garrett Paving Company for resurfacing of local streets and associated repairs during the regular meeting held on Jan. 8. The city will pay the paving company an amount not to exceed $427,366.

Rivian complaint dismissed

A group of Morgan County citizens who filed a lawsuit challenging the zoning for the Rivian electric vehicle manufacturing plant had their case dismissed in Superior Court Tuesday. The case brought by Edward Clay, Candace Beam, Alan D.

Madison City Council rejects ‘pig in a poke’

The Madison City Council voted 4-1 to deny a proposal that would have annexed a parcel of land between Indian Creek Road and Monticello Highway during the city’s regular meeting on Nov. 13. Ed Latham was the only dissenting vote.

Rivian bond deal closes; construction to begin in ’24

Georgia is one step closer to becoming the epicenter of electric vehicle manufacturing after the state and Rivian cleared legal hurdles that sought to derail the manufacturing plant in Morgan and Walton counties.

HSMC hosts Pistons for Paws

The Humane Society of Morgan County (HSMC) held its annual Pistons for Paws Charity Car Show fundraiser Sept. 16 in downtown Madison. The show included trucks, motorcycles, classic muscle cars and even a couple of hearses.

Rivian charges ahead after judge signs bond validation

The judge who initially denied the validation of bonds to provide tax incentives for the Rivian electric vehicle plant has now signed an order to uphold the bonds. Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda Trammell initially ruled against the bonds on Sept.

MAGallery hosts Celebrating Freedom exhibition

MAGallery is hosting the Celebrating Freedom exhibition by abstract artist Nancy Race through Sept. 16. Celebrating Freedom opens with a catered reception and live music on Friday, Aug. 18 from 6-8 p.m., where guests will have the opportunity to meet Race and mingle with other artists and guests.

Morgan County government bodies establish millage rates

The property tax picture in Morgan County is becoming clear as government entities adopt millage rates. The City of Madison adopted a millage rate of 5.424 citywide, which will obligate a Madison resident to pay for $217 in property taxes for each $100,000 of property owned.
