Morgan County farmer John Ruark reappointed to Cotton Board

In late July, the Commodity Commission Ex-Officio Committee met to make appointments to the Georgia Cotton Commission Board of Directors. Bulloch County cotton farmer Greg Sikes was selected to fill the seat of Lee Cromley, who had served on the commission’s board since 2011.

Madison celebrates nation’s birthday

A few hundred Americans – most of them Morgan County residents – put away any differences they may have had for a few hours on July 3 and gathered on the lawn of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center on Foster Street and S. Main Street to celebrate Independence Day with a picnic and concert.

Madison approves budget, water rate increases

As expected, the Madison City Council adopted its budget for the upcoming fiscal year following a June 28 public hearing, the last of three such hearings that began June 12. The new financial plan includes rate increases for Madison water and sewer services.

Flock camera alert leads to arrest

A man described in reports as homeless was apprehended by Morgan County deputies in Rutledge on June 28, after a Flock license plate reader camera alerted law enforcement that a car stolen out of Chattanooga, Tenn., three days prior was traveling westbound on Hwy. 278 in Morgan County.

Fun and freedom define 4th annual Lake Oconee Boat Parade

Joe Williamson thought of the idea for an Independence Day boat parade on Lake Oconee a few years ago. Well, the event has become a huge draw for residents on July 4th, who live on the Morgan County side of Lake Oconee. The fun and exciting spectacle is now entering its fourth year of existence.
