A second house fire at a Reynolds Lake Oconee home valued at $1.4 million caused heavy damage and displaced a family of seven last week.
The fire call came in at 10:34 a.m. Jan. 1, and elements of Greene County Fire Rescue began arriving at 10:43 a.m.
According to the GCFR, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the middle of a two-story home with a basement at 1021 Brookside.
There was also heavy fire coming from the back of the house, on the deck, and spreading to the basement, according to Emergency Management Agency Director Joe Bashore.
Engines 10, 11, 9, and 13 along with Battalion 1, Med. 13, St. 1 and 8 set up with large hand lines and made an initial attack because the floor and roof were jeopardized.
“Water was supplied by a hydrant close to the residence, and a tanker shuttle was established because of the volume of water that was needed to fight the fire,” Bashore said.
Within 10 minutes, a request was sent to the Putnam County Fire Department to bring its ladder truck to the growing blaze.
“The fire was considered under control at approximately 12:30 p.m.,” Bashore said. “Crews remained on scene throughout the afternoon putting out hot spots and performing salvage and overhaul.”
The scene was cleared at about 6:30 p.m., and a fire watch was set up to check on the house throughout the night to make sure there were no rekindles.
There were no injuries.
“At this time, there is no determination of the cause of the fire,” Bashore said. “All public safety departments worked diligently and seamlessly side by side to extinguish the fire. We want to thank the community for all their efforts and support during these types of catastrophes.”
