A large audience attended a performance by The Jazz Legacy Project, featuring the music of the late, great Johnny Mercer, last Thursday at Festival Hall in Greensboro.

Local songwriter wins album of the year

At a ceremony in Atlanta on Aug. 5, local songwriter Roger Fournier received the Male Album of the Year Award from the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA). His self-published album, “Nash 6,” by The Roger Fournier Project, took Gold, the top spot in his category.

OSHM hosts annual August Adventure

The Old School History Museum (OSHM) gathered Eatonton residents of all ages at The Plaza Arts Center Aug. 12 for its annual August Adventure, featuring an Ice Cream Social this year. A record 200-plus visitors came to enjoy cold, sweet ice cream on a hot summer day and play old-timey games.
Last Saturday, members of Eatonton’s Rising Star Lodge #4 hosted staff and residents of the Masonic Home of Georgia at Oconee Springs Park. In between playing on the park’s giant inflatable water toys and going for boat rides on Lake Sinclair, the kids enjoyed barbequed hamburgers, hot dogs and ice-cold drinks provided and prepared for them by local Masons. GWM to host mystery novelist Steven Cooper

Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) proudly announces that novelist Steven Cooper will be its “Meet the Author” presenter next month with his latest mystery: Desert Remains: A Gus Parker and Alex Mills Novel. The Sept. 12 event at GWM in Eatonton will also feature heavy hors d'oeuvres and a full bar.

Pressley performing at Country Music Fest

As an eight-year-old in Eatonton, Logan Pressley received an electric guitar from his father and promptly figured out the intro chords for Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.” “That really impressed my parents,” the now-25-year-old laughs.
