Madison considers glass recycling effort

Madison city manager John Klimm says glass recycling may not be as impractical as we have been led to believe. Klimm said he had been approached by residents and business owners who lamented the fact that Madison no longer recycles glass.

Madison wins court case brought by Hospital Authority

Madison City Attorney Jimmy Carter announced that Ocmulgee Circuit Superior Court Judge Steven Bradley has rendered a ruling, upholding the city’s contention that the use of the old Morgan County Memorial Hospital building would be a nonconforming use under the city’s zoning ordinance.

City of Madison sets millage rates

The Madison City Council set its millage rates for the upcoming tax cycle during its Aug. 8 meeting. Municipal taxes are in addition to the taxes paid to Morgan County. The millage rate for the entire City of Madison was lowered from 5.573 to 5.554. That translates to an additional $222.

Madison City Council wrestling with PRDs again

The Madison City Council wrestled with a number of zoning issues at its Aug. 8 meeting, with one Planned Residential Development (PRD) getting the go ahead and the other withdrawn at the last minute.

Madison City Council approves zoning requests

The Madison City Council approved a conditional use permit at the July 11 meeting that will allow a medical office to occupy space at 2151 Eatonton Road, Building H. The property is located south of I-20 adjacent to the Super 8 motel. The city’s Planning and Zoning Board had recommended approval.
