The Madison City Council approved a conditional use permit at the July 11 meeting that will allow a medical office to occupy space at 2151 Eatonton Road, Building H.
The property is located south of I-20 adjacent to the Super 8 motel. The city’s Planning and Zoning Board had recommended approval.
City Council stipulated that certain conditions suggested by the P&Z Board must be met regarding the approval, including the expiration of the conditional use after 12 months, that all bio-hazardous material be stored in areas inaccessible to the public and that pickup and disposal stations be located in the rear and not visible from the parking lot.
Andrea Bernard, he operator of the facility spoke to the City Council regarding her request via an online connection and said the conditions were acceptable. She also said she plans to purchase property in Morgan County and make her home here.
According to her bio listed on the Atlanta Heart Associates website, she began her “professional practice with Atlanta Heart Associates in 2017 but spent seven years prior to that as an inpatient cardiac registered nurse. She earned a degree in Psychology, then later her Registered Nursing degree from DeKalb College, and then ultimately her master’s degree in Nursing from Walden University – with a focused concentration on Acute Care Adult-Gerontology. From there, she obtained a clinical specialty certification in Adult Cardiac Medicine from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She currently holds memberships to both the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, as well as the United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Georgia.”
The City Council has also approved a variance request that will allow the homeowner who lives at 342 Plum Street to construct a ramp on the south side of the house that will allow a family member with a mobility issue to more easily exit and enter the home.
P&Z had recommended approval of the measure at its last meeting.
The ramp would extend six feet from the back of the house which is 11 feet and six inches from the property line.
The council also approved a text amendment that adds trailer manufacturing to the list of items allowed in Madison’s I-2 zoning specification.

Council also voted to retain Jimmy Carter as City Attorney and City Municipal Court Judge Charles Merritt for the upcoming year. Both men have been at their posts for several years now.
City Solicitor Lee Moss was also reappointed for another term.
The city council also made appointments to public service boards, including Sherrie Ann Collins to the Public Arts Commission, Nancy Green to the Cemetery Stewardship Commission and Timothy Robinson to the Housing Opportunity Commission.
