Lake Oconee Academy students thrive in YGA writing competition

Lake Oconee Academy recently announced that nine of its students were recognized with top honors for the 2026 Young Georgia Authors (YGA) Writing Competition.

LOA students succeed at district spelling bee

Lake Oconee Academy participated in the Greene County District Spelling Bee on Jan. 13 and is celebrating two of its students for their academic achievements.The local academic competition takes place each year, featuring top spellers from multiple schools across the district.

LOA students celebrate 100 days of school in style

Lake Oconee Academy’s youngest students celebrated the 100th day of school on Jan. 15. Students within Pre-K and Kindergarten arrived at school in style, dressed as if they were 100 years old, with props and costumes including glasses, canes, cardigans, and gray wigs.

LOA students advance to state DECA competition

Six Lake Oconee Academy students competed in the Georgia DECA Region 9 competition on Dec. 6 in Loganville, where nearly 200 scholars across the region participated.

LOA donates 4,000 pounds of goods to local food pantry

Lake Oconee Academy held its annual canned food drive throughout November, collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for Second Harvest to donate to the Greene County Food Pantry.

LOA captures third-straight GADA Director’s Cup

Lake Oconee Academy is used to winning.The Titans recently won their third-straight Class A Division II Georgia Athletic Directors Association’s Cup. The Titans also dominated the competition, winning both the Female Director’s Cup and the Male Director’s Cup.

LOA recognizes Schmidt; approves capital projects

During its June 2 meeting, the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors recognized founding member Dick Schmidt, who is retiring from the board after serving since 2006.Executive Director Dr. Brad Bowling presented Schmidt with a plaque engraved by LOA’s engineering class.

LOA’s Marulo named GHP finalist in mathematics

Lake Oconee Academy sophomore Shelby Marulo is the first student in Greene County to be nominated for the Governor’s Honors Program in mathematics. GHP is a residential summer program for talented, knowledgeable, and skilled high school sophomores and juniors.
