A Greene County mother is exploring a recall of Greensboro’s mayor and three city council members over concerns regarding the handling of her son’s arrest by the Greensboro Police Department that led a jury to convict him to a lengthy sentence.

Greensboro announces youth council program at meeting

New Greensboro City Manager Jarvis Sims presented a proposal to the city council Monday for a city-sponsored Georgia Youth Program.
Many municipalities have similar councils and youth mentoring programs, and this would be among the first efforts of the city to establish an ongoing program.

Greensboro votes on key issues; new city manager takes helm

Greensboro city council moved ahead last week on confirming the salary for its new city manager, Jarvis Simms, who took the position at the beginning of the month.
He will be paid $135,000 per year.
Former city manager Larry Postell has been retained though July as a consultant.

Greensboro hires new city manager to start May 1

Greensboro city council approved the hire of a new city manager effective May 1. Current city manager Larry Postell will be retiring, having served under two mayoral administrations since 2002. He is expected to stay on for a period of 60-90 days to aid in the transition.

Recent advertisements seeking a finance director have brought three candidates forward. The city is also seeking a new city manager as Larry Postell is approaching retirement.

City, county continue mediation over LOST split

Hoping that last-minute negotiations may save the day, both Greene County and the city of Greensboro formally met in mediation to discuss the county’s “last-and-final offer” of a split of Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds.

New Greensboro city council member sworn in

Jontavius Smith, 35, was sworn in at the Greensboro City Council meeting on Nov. 21 as the newest councilman on the seven-person board.
He won November’s election by a wide margin over second-time challenger to the seat, Jeff Lister.
