Water Department Supervisor Freddie Evans was present at the Greensboro City Council meeting Monday evening and gave an update on the department.
The water department is part of Public Works/Utilities and is responsible for the maintenance and care of the city water distribution system and the sanitary sewer and disposal system on all water and sewer lines within the city limits of Greensboro.
According to City Manager Larry Postell, the department operates with roughly a $1 million-dollar operating budget. It is presently staffed by four city personnel who service the utility within the city limits.
City lines repaired to date include 1911 East Broad Street, Robbins Circle, the intersection of Mill and Cherry streets, 505 South Main and West Elm Street.
Multiple sewer lines in the city were serviced and including 402 South Main, 302 West Broad, 202 South Walnut, North Street and Greene Street.
Water mains have continued to be a headache, but the city has repaired West Elm, North Walnut, and 505 South Main Street. A new water line connection was established at Madison Highway for a new customer.
A water repair remains at South Street and Booker Road which will go up to the city’s main line. A contractor was onsite at Rachael Road and worked with the city.
The city’s water source is Lake Oconee, and its primary sewer treatment plant load is roughly 350,000 gallons per day. Water consumption for the city averages 700,000 gallons per day.
