BOE approves budget; discipline process updated

The Greene County Board of Education adopted the school system’s fiscal year 2027 budget and discussed several policy matters during its June 18 meeting.The board held a public hearing on the FY27 budget shortly before Thursday evening’s meeting, following an earlier hearing on June 11.

Kilgore announces re-election campaign

Steve Kilgore, a two-term member of the Greene County Board of Education, has announced his candidacy for re-election. Primaries will be held in May with the general election slated for November.

GCES reveals major student program success in BOE meeting

The Greene County Board of Education met on Feb. 12 for its second monthly meeting of 2026 and shared multiple updates from the beginning of the calendar year.

Schmuhl sworn in as GCSS superintendent

The Greene County Board of Education held a called meeting on July 10 to vote on the final approval of Dr. Arryn Schmuhl as the new GCSS superintendent. The BOE entered an executive session to discuss personnel matters, and Schmuhl was sworn in by Judge Russell Wall shortly after.

Greene BOE hears proposals for building, sign

The Greene County Board of Education heard two project proposals during its first meeting of the year on Jan. 16.The JROTC department presented a proposal for an annex building totaling just under 15,000 sq. ft., located near the high school gym and adding to the existing JROTC space.

Last week, the Greene County Board of Education featured a presentation by new high school principal John Ellenburg on a proposed new pathway for students.According to Ellenburg, the new pathway would consist of five courses among four pathways.

Professional standards commission rules on BOE complaint

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) ruled earlier this year on an ethics case against Dr. Otho Tucker, former CEO of Lake Oconee Academy (LOA), regarding the priority enrollment of the children of part-time employees at the school.
