A formal complaint filed by Greene County School Superintendent Dr. Chris Houston regarding enrollment practices for new students at Lake Oconee Academy was sent to the Georgia Department of Education, Federal Programs and Special Education, and the Professional Standards Committee.

Dr. Perry Lee has been a fixture in Greene County, seeing many county residents at Lake Oconee Eye Care, a practice he runs with his wife, Dr. Susan Lee. He is also the current chairman of the Greene County Board of Education (BOE) and will run in a contested race to keep his seat running against Dr. Otho Tucker, former CEO at Lake Oconee Academy.

In what may be a confusing ballot with two similar names for the District 4 seat on the Greene County Board of Education (BOE), Dr. Maggie Kjer is making the rounds in a series of informative meet-and-greet sessions within her district.

The Greene County Board of Education and the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors have fully approved and submitted to the Georgia Department of Education a five-year charter renewal for Lake Oconee Academy.

The dispute between Lake Oconee Academy and the Greene County Board of Education concerning the renewal of LOA’s charter continued on Dec. 4 with the LOA board approving a version of the application that will be submitted to the state.

In a firm statement received from the Board of Education (BOE), the five-year charter renewal application has been signed, sealed, and delivered and is in the hands of Lake Oconee Academy (LOA).

Judging by the crowd at last Thursday’s meet and greet at Oconee Brewing for Dr. Otho Tucker and Maggie Combs, the next Board of Education election going to voters in April and May next year will be a challenging one.

The charter negotiations to complete a petition that ultimately goes to the Georgia Department of Education for Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) appears to be nearing completion with the Greene County Board of Education (BOE).

A website has been launched and advertised locally through billboards and print media calling for “educational excellence for all” in Greene County, although, to date, no one has taken responsibility for it.
