Steve Kilgore, a two-term member of the Greene County Board of Education, has announced his candidacy for re-election. Primaries will be held in May with the general election slated for November.
First elected in 2018, Kilgore, 74, and a 19-year resident, brings both experience and commitment to the educational needs of Greene County’s 2,500 students. Kilgore served as vice chair during his tenure, helping the board to focus on unity, fiscal responsibility, and delivering measurable results for students, family, educators, and taxpayers.
“Working together, we were able to meet the taxpayers’ expectations,” Kilgore said. “We successfully managed the operating budget, avoiding increases in taxes during my tenure. Residents must know that we were fiscally responsible, and I will ensure we continue doing that.”
While serving on the board, Kilgore was instrumental in securing a $3 million state grant to fund the county’s College and Career Academy. The academy was recently recognized as the best in the state. It remains a pivotal resource in giving students hands-on learning to secure jobs upon graduation in selected fields.
“We are exceptionally proud of this recognition and expect to continue offering real-world experience for those Greene County students choosing their career pathways, be it in construction, welding, and more,” said Kilgore.
Kilgore champions the district’s efforts in supporting the “whole child.”
“We expanded wraparound services to support our students’ physical, emotional, and mental well-being,” Kilgore said. “We also focused on key community partnerships such as the Boys and Girls Club, Atlas Ministry, and Young Life to provide after-school programs and leadership development.”
