Recently, there were letters published in the Lake Oconee News referencing the LOA-BOE lawsuit. I disagree with the assertions in the letters.
LOA has tried to work on a solution to the issues in the lawsuit but has not been able to come to an agreement with the District.
I am not going to get into the details as those discussions are confidential; however, I am curious how Roger Fields of the Lake Country Conservatives has been made aware of these confidential discussions. The characterization and statements made in the letters against LOA are not true.
LOA is committed to improving the education of all students in Greene County. That is why LOA was founded. This lawsuit was brought over legitimate issues and concerns with the district.
This lawsuit intends only to ensure LOA is properly and legally funded pursuant to the Charter contract and state law. While the district can disagree with LOA’s position, it is not a waste of resources for LOA to pursue what it considers breaches of its’ Charter contract.
Anyone in a similar position would do the same; and by doing so, LOA is ensuring that it is properly funded so it can continue to improve the education of its students.
LOA does not believe the press is where the parties should discuss this case, and certainly, the comments in the letter are not productive. If anything, it appears the district wants to try to bully LOA through third parties to do something it is not willing to do. That is unfortunate and regrettable.
