Charter negotiations nearing completion

The charter negotiations to complete a petition that ultimately goes to the Georgia Department of Education for Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) appear to be nearing completion with the Greene County Board of Education (BOE).

School system alleges LOA has violated its charter

The Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors Wednesday responded to a Sept. 9 letter from Greene County School Superintendent Dr. Chris Houston that accused the district’s charter school of violating the terms of their charter agreement.

Lipscomb reitres as LOA board chair; Tompkins ascends

Longtime chairman of the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors, Mark Lipscomb, has retired from the governing body for Greene County’s charter school. At Monday’s monthly meeting, Vice Chairman Michael Tompkins was voted in by the board as the new chairman.

OPINION: LOA is committed to improving education

Dear editor: Recently, there were letters published in the Lake Oconee News referencing the LOA-BOE lawsuit. I disagree with the assertions in the letters. LOA has tried to work on a solution to the issues in the lawsuit but has not been able to come to an agreement with the District.
