FOOTBALL GAME PREVIEW: Greene County at Morgan County - The county-line rivalry continues...

The Morgan County-Greene County rivalry dates back to 1966, according to the Georgia High School Football Historic Association.

The Bulldogs and Tigers haven’t played since 2019, but they did play in a preseason scrimmage last year in Tigers Stadium. Now, this season’s contest will count.

The Bulldogs lead the all-time series over the Tigers 30-24-1. They also won the 2019 meeting by a score of 28-15. Greene County also hasn’t won since 2016’s 13-12 win.

Both programs are coming off huge road victories in Week 1. Morgan County defeated Social Circle 42-18, and Greene County conquered the B.E.S.T.

Academy 27-6.

Morgan County bested the Redskins after a slow start and overcame an 11-point early deficit. Bulldogs’ quarterback Talan Fuller was 12-of-13 for 135 yards with three touchdowns.

His favorite target was wide receiver TJ Thompson, who hauled in four catches for 84 yards and three scores. The senior proved to be a vertical threat for Morgan County.

The Bulldogs will face a tough Greene County defensive front that is anchored by Marlow Lamar and Kevin “Juju” Wynn. Wynn, who is only a sophomore, totaled three sacks, two tackles for loss and six overall stops against the B.E.S.T. Eagles on Friday.

Morgan County’s offensive front got it going after a rough patch in the first quarter. That Bulldogs’ front five paved the way for their tailbacks to rush for 301 yards on the ground versus Social Circle. They were led by Jacere Cooper, who had 164 yards on 16 attempts with a score. Junior Jay Dorsey totaled 82 yards and two touchdowns, and former Greene County Tiger DJ Smith had 52 yards on six carries.

Offensively, Greene County didn’t come out of the gate firing, but senior running back Malik West broke open the game in the second quarter.

He added another score before freshman quarterback Steve Miller found wideout Javaris Harris for two scores late in the second half.

Morgan County’s defense showed out in its season opener. Smith had a dominant game at outside linebacker for the Bulldogs but so did sophomore Draco Frazzitta. Jaylen Elder, Dane Dickerson and Landon Vickers are all players that will try and stop the Tigers’ rushing attack.

Miller completed 8-of-17 pass attempts for 57 yards and two scores in the 2022 season debut. He will face a talented Morgan County secondary as Thompson, Zach Moore and Reggie Ross try to defend Greene County’s explosive passing attack.

Friday night is set up to be a great showdown between both the Tigers and Bulldogs.
