100 Who Care donates $15,614 to Greene Christian Outreach

The Del Webb 100 Who Care organization presented $15,614 — one of its largest donations ever — to Greene County Christian Outreach (GCCO) Dec. 15.

This was made possible through The Salvation Army’s Project SHARE Program and funds provided by Georgia Power to match the donations from 100 Who Care members. Members of the Del Webb Golf Club also donated funds to 100 Who Care to support this effort.

Project SHARE is designed primarily to allow Georgia Power residential customers to add small amounts to their monthly Georgia Power bills. Each month, Georgia Power matches those funds and transmits them to The Salvation Army, which makes them available to local Salvation Army offices.

In counties without Salvation Army offices, the funds are made available to local non-profit organizations to administer. In Greene County, GCCO is the Salvation Army Agent and uses these funds, along with cash donations, to provide short-term financial assistance to Greene County residents for rent, utilities, and lodging.

The Del Webb 100 Who Care organization has made substantial donations to local charities four times per year since its inception in 2020, totaling $182,302 to date. Every quarter, its members (currently 177) decide which charity they will support. The funds are collected from the members and given to the charity.

Because all of the members are Georgia Power customers, The Salvation Army accepted these contributions, and Georgia Power will match them.

More information on Project SHARE and how to participate is available on the GCCO website, greenecountychristianoutreach.org, and on the website listed at the end of the accompanying article (below).

Pastor Meg Jackson Clark, co-chairperson of the GCCO board, said, “We are very grateful for the Del Webb 100 Who Care selecting us to receive this quarter’s contribution and for The Salvation Army and Georgia Power for doubling the impact of that contribution. Thanks to this gift, we will be able to help more Greene County residents stay in their homes and keep their electricity on and their water flowing, and give homeless families temporary shelter.”

Greene County Christian Outreach is celebrating 25 years of serving Greene County residents. In addition to providing $675,000 in short-term financial assistance since 2000, GCCO operates a Thrift Shop where gently used clothing, household items, jewelry, (new) crafting materials, and other items are available for sale at bargain prices.

The Thrift Shop is located at 402 W. Broad St., three blocks from Main Street in Greensboro. (Note that this is GCCO’s new mailing address.)
