A Forest Park man was arrested on multiple charges on Jan. 31 following a traffic stop and ensuing investigation that revealed his juvenile passenger had marijuana hidden beneath her clothing. Barry Lester Bell, 34, of 6192 Holiday Blvd.

An arrest was made after residents of Misty Grove Lane had been constantly wary for a month or longer. “A man was seen creeping around people’s yards in the early mornings and at night around Misty Grove Lane,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard R. Sills described.

$25M recreation facility set to open early next year

A new recreational complex off the 441 bypass in Madison is slated for completion in March 2025, for $25 million. It will bring to the community a facility offering amenities usually only seen at private sports facilities.

Oconee Ranger District hosts annual forestry meeting

More than two dozen members of local, regional, and state Forest Service personnel gathered at Oconee Ranger District facilities near Rock Eagle on Jan. 25, for an annual meeting about the Oconee Forest Health and Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project (OFHWHIP).

McIver pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter

A year and a half after the Georgia Supreme Court overturned his malice murder conviction in the shooting death of his wife, Claud “Tex” McIver pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Fulton County Superior Court last week.

New development proposes workforce housing

The Greensboro Planning and Zoning Board last Thursday voted to recommend the city council approve what could be the first new housing community priced so teachers, nurses, first responders and workers in stores and restaurants can buy a house in the city where they work.
