The non-profit organization Men of Lake Oconee has announced it is changing its name after less than two years. President Bob Massey told members at a meeting Tuesday night that the group quickly discovered that the success of the program includes the assistance and support of women.

Madison City Council approves zoning requests

The Madison City Council approved a conditional use permit at the July 11 meeting that will allow a medical office to occupy space at 2151 Eatonton Road, Building H. The property is located south of I-20 adjacent to the Super 8 motel. The city’s Planning and Zoning Board had recommended approval.

Lipscomb reitres as LOA board chair; Tompkins ascends

Longtime chairman of the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors, Mark Lipscomb, has retired from the governing body for Greene County’s charter school. At Monday’s monthly meeting, Vice Chairman Michael Tompkins was voted in by the board as the new chairman.

Osprey nest fire causes temporary power outage

Residents in northeastern Putnam County were briefly without power Saturday morning when an osprey nest caught fire atop a Tri-County EMC utility pole. Putnam County Fire Chief Tommy McClain said the call came in around 6:15 a.m. July 9, and two firefighters responded.

‘Creating a culture of care’: GCHS starts wall of honor for students, alumni

Greene County High School has a new addition to its cafeteria in the form of newly constructed signage, which is called the “Greene County Tigers Ring of Honor.” GCHS principal Eddie Hood thought of the idea, hoping it would show students the greatness they can achieve while enrolled.

Mixed-use development halted for legal review

A new residential, mixed-use development proposed for 137 acres near the busy intersection of Linger Longer Road and Lake Oconee Parkway is now on hold for legal review by both the developer, Red Clay Development LLC, and attorneys for the county.
