Third Reynolds fire since Christmas not as severe

For the third time since Christmas, a home was damaged by fire in Reynolds Lake Oconee, according to Greene County Fire and Rescue.

Engines 9,10, 11, and 13 responded to Reynolds Landing on Jan. 25 along with personnel from Greene County EMS, the Greensboro Fire Department, and the Walker Church Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in time to save most of the home and the furniture inside, according to Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Joe Bashore.

First-arriving crews found fire showing from the rooftop chimney with heavy fire in the attic and extending into the walls. Crews made an aggressive attack, deploying two interior handlines and one exterior line to the crawl space and roof area.

The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival. Crews completed a primary search and worked hard to salvage the home’s contents aggressively. No injuries were reported.

“Great work by all involved, especially while operating in challenging winter conditions,” a Facebook post from Greene County Fire and Rescue stated.

Bashore said the fire appeared to have originated in the fireplace and chimney area before spreading to adjacent walls on the first and second floors. The house apparently sustained little exterior damage.

Fire marshals and insurance company investigators continue to probe evidence from two other fires in Reynolds since Christmas of 2025.

The first fire occurred at a home on Davison Drive on Dec. 26. Although firefighters arrived within 10 minutes, the home was already 80 percent involved. Investigators have not provided any answers on how quickly the fire spread or what started it, according to Bashore.

The second fire occurred at a home at 1021 Brookside on Jan. 1.

Crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the house when they arrived nine minutes after the first call came in. Heavy fire from the back of the house led to speculation that the fire started there, but investigators have not yet shared a cause.

Nothing uncovered so far indicates that the fires were anything other than three unfortunate accidents. No injuries were reported from any of the fires.
