Motorist injured in Highway 44 crash

A serious accident at 3241 Lake Oconee Parkway on Highway 44 just south of the commercial district on Nov. 14 led to speculation that someone had been killed in a crash on social media sites, but that was not the case, according to authorities.

A 70-year-old Marietta man, who was a native of Greensboro, was found deceased in Lake Oconee near the Redlands boat ramp on the evening of July 24, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Woman arrested for allegedly stabbing husband

A Greene County woman was arrested May 23 after allegedly stabbing her husband four times, according to Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison.Elizabeth Wood Hall, 46, faces charges of aggravated assault in the wake of the incident.

Texas man drowns in Lake Oconee

A Texas man’s body was found near the shore of Hixon’s Bluff nearly 24 hours after he went missing on the evening of May 1.The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Greene County Fire Rescue began searching for 54-year-old Bertram Foster at around 9:30 p.m.

Greene County jail reopens

It took a little longer than expected, but the Greene County jail is back in business.According to Sheriff Donnie Harrison, the jail resumed all operations on March 18, and inmates who had been housed in the Morgan County jail returned to Greene County’s facility.

LOA school resource officer fired by sheriff’s office

Greene County Deputy Jonathan Franco has been fired by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for violating the deputy’s oath of office and having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to a letter from Chief Deputy Richard Campbell filed in Franco’s personnel records.

Sheriff locates fleeing suspect’s marijuana bag

A Conyers man who tossed a book bag full of marijuana out of his car during a pursuit, hoping to avoid a drug charge, was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after Sheriff Donnie Harrison later found it.
