Short-term rental hearings on the way

The first of two special public hearings on probable controls for short-term rentals was held on March 23 at the Putnam County administration building, led by the Putnam County Board of Commissioners. A second hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, again at the county administrative building.

Cardboard vehicle tag leads to illegal plastic discovery

A traffic stop for an illegal cardboard tag turned out to be much more than a ticket for an unregistered vehicle. The discovery of an open bottle of liquor, an outstanding warrant, and more than two dozen financial cards and checks that were not in the driver’s or passenger’s names resulted in two arrests and a busy afternoon for Eatonton police officers Alex Rickey and Rebecca Meeks.

Gatewood continues strong track-and-field start

The Gatewood Gators boys’ and girls’ track and field teams got off to a good start in the first week of the season and both looked to continue their success this past Wednesday as they hosted Brentwood, Trinity Christian, Briarwood, John Hancock and Twiggs Academy.

The Putnam County Charter School System is celebrating Youth Art Month. In preparation for a proclamation being read at the next Putnam County Board of Education meeting, students from Putnam Primary, Elementary, Middle and High Schools performed or presented to the board to demonstrate the effect of fine arts education on them.

The Gatewood Gators jumped out to their first hot streak of the season with two straight wins, beating Robert Toombs Christian Academy and Vidalia Heritage Academy last week to boost their season record to 3-3.

HEART helps Exchange Bank donate to PGH

Through the Georgia Rural Healthcare Organization Tax Credit Program, better known as HEART: Helping Enhance Access to Rural Treatment, Exchange Bank recently provided Putnam General Hospital with a $25,000 check to help offset losses incurred by poverty-stricken patients.
