Three days and nights of sub-freezing temperatures over Christmas weekend brought burst water pipes and frozen well pumps to households all across Putnam County with the thaw that began Monday afternoon.

Shoplifter caught red-handed in store

An Athens man who was caught shoplifting in the Eatonton Walmart reportedly thought he couldn’t be arrested because he was still inside the store. He is now currently behind bars in the Putnam County jail, according to jail reports.

Greensboro man killed in Putnam County crash

A Greensboro man lost his life on Dec. 12, in a single-vehicle crash in Putnam County. Romario Garcia Mauricio, 25, of Greensboro, was traveling alone in his 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, heading southbound on Pea Ridge Road near the Sparta Highway at about 2:20 p.m.

BOE holds forum on suspension of taxes for older homeowners

The Little Theater at Putnam County Middle School was abuzz with comments and complaints from about 60 local taxpayers on Dec. 6, as the Putnam County Board of Education hosted an information session about the ramifications of exempting senior citizens from paying school taxes.

Eatonton native receives HR industry recognition

HEART helps rural hospitals to help others

There’s almost no way to avoid paying taxes. However, for Georgia taxpayers, there is a way to directly benefit the rural hospital of their choice in the process. Georgia’s Helping Enhance Access to Rural Treatment (HEART) program was signed into law on Jan. 1, 2017, by then-Governor Nathan Deal.

The large piles of wood debris seen along the widening of U.S. 441 north of Eatonton could soon be heading to a new business here instead of a landfill.
