The New York City-based Doo Wop Project played to a full house Saturday night at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton, treating nostalgic fans, young and old(er), to a wide array of songs from the 1940s to the present day.

Kim Conrey will be Georgia Writers Museum’s “Meet the Author” presenter on Feb. 7, at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. She will be discussing Stealing Ares, her first in-a-series science-fiction book that’s already a runaway seller.

Pickleball is one of the newest sports to take the nation by storm and finally has made its way to Lake Country. The sport is described as a mixture of tennis and badminton.

Joel Harvin is familiar with the program and culture built by retired Putnam County head coach Shaun Pope. Early County, the program Harvin coached at the time, traveled to Eatonton in 2020 to face the higher-seeded War Eagles for a first-round playoff game at Al Reaves Field.

The Plaza Arts Center is now in its 15th year providing a top-notch entertainment and event space to Eatonton and all its surrounding communities. The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties recently announced its January 2023 Students of the Month, including Karlie Horton (Gatewood Schools), Jai’Lyn Armour (Greene County High School), Halsey Bosart (Lake Oconee Academy), Marisa Williams (Nathanael Greene Academy), and Jaida Jackson (Putnam County High School).

Assistant Superintendent Derick Austin reported the proposed timeline for the new elementary school to the Putnam County Board of Education on Monday. The timeline estimates the design will start in June with construction beginning in January 2024.
