Last Thursday, The Plaza’s 500-seat theater was completely full for One Night in Memphis – a musical tribute to early rock-n-roll legends Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.
The night started out with some Carl Perkins songs. Blue Suede Shoes echoed across the stage and the audience remembered the songs from yesteryear. Next came the rockin’ piano guy, Jerry Lee Lewis, which prompted dancing in the seats, feet tappin’, and even Jerry Lee’s feet dancing across the keys.
Once the crowd caught its collective breath, Johnny Cash took to The Plaza stage. Performing his iconic songs, the audience sang along.
Elvis appeared last. This set truly was the showstopper. The singer performing as Presley had the crowd going. Ladies were swooning, everyone was dancing, and the entire audience appeared mesmerized by the performance.
Rounding out the night, all four legends sang together – leaving a permanent mark on the audience’s memory.
One Night in Memphis proved to be a great night at The Plaza. The sold-out show marked the third official performance of the 2023 entertainment season for one of the premier performance venues of the entire state.
Throughout 2023, The Plaza is celebrating 15 years of providing top-notch entertainment and everyone is invited and encouraged to experience a show at least once or twice this year. Next up at The Plaza will be the live play, The Odd Couple, performed by members of PAPA, the Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts. This play will take place April 20-23, with tickets soon on sale at plazacenter.org.
