Exhibit features top athletes with Putnam roots Last week’s Sunday at the Museum was more grand than usual at The Plaza Arts Center. Eleven local sports greats were honored April 7 at the unveiling of the Sports Wall of Fame.

The Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) has announced its cast for its upcoming production of the play Steel Magnolias, in April at the Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton.

The Plaza Arts Center’s annual Art Camp for Kids took place July 17-21, in Eatonton. “Children at this camp are doing different types of art and get exposed to different art media,” Plaza Arts Center Executive Director Susan Usry said.

Sounds of lively music and clopping of shoes filled The Plaza Art Center June 11-15 as the participants of Camp Broadway learned their lines, dance moves and songs, preparing for the “big day” – a presentation of the performance to the audience on the last day.

“Art is dynamite.” Those were the first words to flash across the screen last Thursday night at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton, to start a one-time presentation of “Rock & Chisel,” a bio-documentary of famed sculptor and painter Steffen Thomas.

The final Mocha House fundraiser of the year, the largest of the Coffee House series, was presented late last month by The Plaza Arts Center and The Arts Barn. It featured 23 acts, 20 performers, and a packed house with performers of all ages represented, from actors as young as seven-years-old to high school students to grandparents. The money raised from the sale of coffee and other concessions went directly to funding The Plaza Arts Center’s and The Arts Barn’s Summer Broadway Intensive.

Putnam County’s ‘Marble King’ On one of the walls in the north hallway at the Plaza Arts Center hangs a photograph – and with it, one of my favorite stories to tell visitors to the Old School History Museum. The photograph features a boy smiling and looking upward while down on one knee and with one hand on the ground, stretched forward.
