Last week, fine art teachers from the Putnam County Charter School System came to perform and display their art at The Plaza. I stayed that night as the attendant for the theater, but I sure am glad I was working that evening.

2008 may seem like forever ago. For me, I was a freshman in high school – fresh-faced, excited to learn, and crushing on lots of high school seniors – definitely in my Taylor Swift fan girl phase.

The Plaza Arts Center and The Arts Barn are so excited about the continued collaboration of the Coffee House series this year! For each Coffee House, The Plaza and The Arts Barn look for a range of entertainment. Lake Country high schoolers to young adults are invited to perform.

A large audience gathered on Feb. 23, at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton, where Putnam County Primary and Elementary School students presented a musical Black History Month program in front of family and friends.

Last Thursday, The Plaza’s 500-seat theater was completely full for One Night in Memphis – a musical tribute to early rock-n-roll legends Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.

With winter often comes the winter blues. As we slowly come out of the cold months, it’s important to remember that preparing for the not-so-winter blues is just as important as keeping your mind active and busy during the actual winter blues.

Let’s travel back in time to Dec. 4, 1956, to a night known in rock-n-roll history as the night stardom was born.

Part of the stated mission for The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton is to bring the arts to the local community. Late last month, during the pre-show sound check for The Doo Wop Project at The Plaza, a group of local students ranging from high school freshmen to college-aged – each interested in pursuing a career in the arts – had the unique opportunity of speaking one-on-one with the show’s stars.

The New York City-based Doo Wop Project played to a full house Saturday night at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton, treating nostalgic fans, young and old(er), to a wide array of songs from the 1940s to the present day.

The Plaza Arts Center is now in its 15th year providing a top-notch entertainment and event space to Eatonton and all its surrounding communities. After starting out in 2008 as nothing but a concept – a thought, a dream – The Plaza now represents a place of community, creativity, and history for the Lake Country.
