Morgan County hires new T&F head coach

Morgan County High School recently hired Kelan Fraise as its new track-and-field head coach, replacing Dusty Hawkins. Fraise spoke with the newspaper last week and said he’s excited to get to work. He also confirmed he will be an assistant coach on the Bulldogs’ varsity football team.

GAME PREVIEW: Morgan County Bulldogs to host Cherokee Bluff for scrimmage

Morgan County football is set to host Cherokee Bluff later this week for a scrimmage to end fall camp. The Bulldogs and Bears will hit the gridiron for a second consecutive year in a preseason matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 at Legion Field in Bill Corry Stadium.

Jackson inks with Lions to continue clay target career

Morgan County’s Mason Jackson recently signed his letter of intent to be on the clay target team at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs. The recent graduate has been shooting ever since the fourth grade, and he told the Lake Oconee News how he fell in love with the sport.

Bulldogs’ Shawn Morgan signs with Montreat College

Morgan County senior Shawn Morgan Jr. recently signed his letter of intent to play basketball at the next level for Montreat College in North Carolina. Morgan, who signed with the Cavaliers last Friday, is a 6-foot-5 forward with raw athleticism and a great work ethic.

Ainslie reflects on time at Morgan County

Morgan County head coach Merritt Ainslie will not be returning next season after eight years at the helm. The Lake Oconee News reached out to Ainslie for comment and he reflected on his time with the Bulldogs. “Baseball is what gets inside you, lights you up,” Ainslie stated.

Paul reflects on how this Bulldogs’ team was his favorite

Morgan County boys’ soccer coach Aaron Paul would be remiss if he didn’t say this season’s team was his favorite to coach, especially after how hard his guys battled through adversity all year long. Despite not reaching the third round as the Bulldogs had hoped, Paul enjoyed every second of 2023.

Diamond Dogs top Hornets to advance

After winning the region, the Morgan County baseball program hosted its first series as the area’s No. 1 seed in the GHSA Class 3A State Playoffs earlier this week. The Diamond Dogs faced the Savannah Country Day Hornets last Monday in a double-header that started at 5 p.m.
