On Tuesday last week, the Putnam County Board of Commissioners (BOC) postponed to September the schedule for a new short-term rentals ordinance, and with little comment approved forwarding to Eatonton City Council a new batch of de-annexation requests.

Short-term rental ordinance continues taking shape

The broad outlines of a new short-term rentals (STR) ordinance seem to be taking shape, but plenty of the nitty-gritty details remain to be settled by the Putnam County Board of Commissioners, even with a fourth work session set to follow its usual first-Friday morning meeting.

Fun and freedom define 4th annual Lake Oconee Boat Parade

Joe Williamson thought of the idea for an Independence Day boat parade on Lake Oconee a few years ago. Well, the event has become a huge draw for residents on July 4th, who live on the Morgan County side of Lake Oconee. The fun and exciting spectacle is now entering its fourth year of existence.

New no-wake zone for wakeboard boaters

Early last month, Governor Brian Kemp signed House Bill 121, which imposes new restrictions on boaters engaged in towing wakeboarders or providing a boat-generated wake for wake surfers.

Private utility outlines protective measures in place per consent order A sewage spill leading to the waters of Lake Oconee in February has led to a fine being levied against Piedmont Water as well as corrective action per a consent order given to the company.

Five roundabouts planned for Highway 44

If you’ve been wondering how Lake Country drivers are going to handle that new roundabout planned for the Highway 44 (Lake Oconee Parkway) and Linger Longer Road intersection, you can multiply that by five. It’s a long way off. At least six years.

New evidence discovered in Dermond slayings

This week marks the nine-year anniversary of the slayings of Russell and Shirley Dermond, residents of the quiet and prestigious gated Great Waters community in Putnam County.

Piedmont CEO speaks about sewage spilled into Lake Oconee

February 23rd dawned clear and sunny in Greensboro. The city went about its business, students entered and exited schools, golfers appeared on the courses, and some boaters on the lake enjoyed a brief respite from the colder temperatures that swept through the area recently.
