Greene deputy makes ‘suspicious drone’ arrest

Three men who appeared to be preparing to deliver contraband to area prisons using drones were intercepted by Greene County deputies on Nov. 28 following a traffic stop. On Dec. 11, another Greene County deputy was involved in a traffic stop involving a drone.

Two men who appeared to be preparing to deliver contraband to area prisons using a drone were arrested on Nov. 28 by Greene County deputies, following a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and, as of Dec. 5, has eluded capture. Dondriko Travis Hoke, 23, of 2133 Green Forest Dr.

Union Point man arrested after throwing fish plate at deputy

A Union Point man is in jail following a Nov. 7 altercation in which he threw a plate of food at a Greene County deputy. Robert Latroy Briscoe, 41, now faces charges of littering, obstruction, probation violation, public drunkenness, and simple battery on a police officer.

Community bids farewell to K-9 Deputy Oby

A memorial service was held on the afternoon of Nov. 14 at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro to bid farewell to K-9 Deputy Oby. Oby was a 13-year-old Belgian Malinois born in Holland who was shipped to the United States and trained as a police dog by Custom Canine Unlimited in Gainesville.

A legendary member of the Greene County law enforcement community has passed away. “It is with a heavy heart that the Greene County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of K-9 Deputy Oby,” the GCSO said in a Facebook post on Nov. 6. Deputy Oby joined the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on Oct.

Fleeing suspect shoots himself at conclusion of chase

Greene County deputies and Greensboro police officers assisted the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office with a police pursuit on Sept. 23 and helped bring an end to the chase, but the suspect shot himself in the head before he could be taken into custody.
