Greene County brings home gold at Special Olympics

Six special needs students from the Greene County School System recently brought a pair of gold medals back to Greensboro in two different sports from the Special Olympics Winter Games. Greene County’s students won gold medals in the 3-on-3 basketball and assisted ramp bowling events.

‘Say yes to the Dress’

CCA to host special occasions boutique To call Leanne Parks and her 30-plus volunteers “Fairy Godmothers” would be an understatement. Parks is working with Greene County’s Board of Education (BOE) College and Career Academy (CCA) to sponsor a special occasions boutique at the Academy this Saturday.

‘19 of Greene’ holds book signing at GCHS

Greene County High School hosted a special and historic event on Dec. 9 in its lunchroom. Greene County alumni and famous college football writer Tony Barnhart hosted a signing for his new book, “ The 19 of Greene,” about the first integrated football team in 1970 at GCHS.

“Transported … that’s the word … I was utterly transported!” I found myself repeating those words as I pondered this book review of The 19 of Greene by Tony Barnhart. I am not exaggerating. I really was taken back to another world, one that no longer exists.

Tigers tab Smith as new school athletic director

Greene County High School principal Eddie Hood and other school board members recently made the decision to hire Chad Smith as the Tigers' new athletic director. Smith, most recently the athletic director at Central Gwinnett High School, steps into the position with 25 years of experience.

Multiple Tigers hit personal records at state meet

After a successful track-and-field season for both programs, Greene County sent 15 boys and nine girls to the GHSA Class A Division II state meet last Saturday in Columbus. The Tigers placed high in multiple events throughout the day, but the biggest result came in the 4x100-meter relay.

Acclaimed African American astronaut inspires Greene County students

If you ever wanted to see a full auditorium of high school kids fall silent, you needed to be at Greene County High School’s presentation from a NASA Astronaut last week.

Greene County track and field preps for state meet

At the end of April, Greene County track and field was preparing for a region championship. Now, the Tigers are getting ready for this weekend’s GHSA Class A Division II state championship meet in Columbus.

After having its first multiple-win season in years, the Greene County baseball program decided to hire its new head coach internally.
