Morgan County soccer coach Aaron Paul thought about last season’s loss to Peach County in the second round of the playoffs for nearly a year.However, after last Wednesday’s 4-2 victory over the Trojans in this year’s second-round rematch, Paul felt a sense of happiness and relief.

Local golf teams have strong showings at area tourneys

Several area golf teams excelled at their area tournament this week and have qualified for the state competition.At Harbor Club in Greensboro, Lake Oconee Academy’s teams shined and made it to the next round.

Gators finish No. 1 in region

Gatewood closed out its regular season on the diamond with two wins last week, including an important 7-3 victory on Tuesday over region rival Piedmont Academy.

Calvary Day sweeps MoCo in second round

SAVANNAH — Calvary Day swept Monday’s second-round series over Morgan County at Grayson Stadium to advance to the Class AAA quarterfinal.The Cavaliers took game one of the afternoon 8-4 and followed up that performance with a gritty 7-6 win in 12 innings over the Diamond Dogs.

Gators bring home track & field gold

Last week, the Gatewood boys’ track and field team captured its third state championship in five years.It did so in dramatic fashion, too. The Gators trailed Trinity Christian by a few points entering the final event, the 4x400-meter relay race.
