Local golf teams have strong showings at area tourneys

Several area golf teams excelled at their area tournament this week and have qualified for the state competition.

At Harbor Club in Greensboro, Lake Oconee Academy’s teams shined and made it to the next round.

The Lady Titans won their sixth consecutive championship, while the Titans placed second overall.

As a team, LOA’s girls shot a total of 158, 41 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Christian Heritage. The Lady Titans also beat Washington-Wilkes and the Atlanta Classical Academy.

Lili Nelson shot a team-low for LOA’s girls, followed by Georgia Bosart, Kensley Windham, and Lily Dominy. Nelson won the low-medalist award.

LOA’s boys had a strong showing, battling Christian Heritage neck-and-neck. The Titans were led by Drew Williams, the boys’ low medalist.

Carson Johnston, Tucker Littleton, Drew Urrutia, Alden Postlmayr, and Noah Dominy also performed well at the area tournament for LOA’s boys.

Both the Titans and Lady Titans will now travel to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class A Division II state tournament May 20-21 at Southern Hills golf course in Hawkinsville.

Each of Morgan County’s teams competed at their area tournaments in Savannah on Monday.

The Lady Dogs are state-bound after a third-place finish earlier this week. They had strong outings from Hailey Westmoreland, Tallie Ray, and Addison Callaway.

Next week, They’ll compete at the Class AAA girls’ golf tournament at Lafayette Golf Course in Walker County, near Dalton.

Unfortunately, Morgan County’s boys placed fifth at the area tournament in Savannah and didn’t qualify for state.
