Smith: Dawgs take on Tigers

Georgia and Clemson met for the first time on the Gridiron in 1897 in Athens, and the Bulldogs won 24-0. The two teams have met intermittently through the years, with the Bulldogs holding a 43-18-4 lead.

’Dogs pound Putnam behind solid offensive display

Morgan County answered the call again on offense in a 42-28 road win over Putnam County this past week.The ‘Dogs racked up 617 yards of total offense and scored 48 points in their first game against Warren County.

Tigers break Twiggs, improve to 2-0

Greene County improved to 2-0 on the season with a 36-0 rout of Twiggs County this past week. The Tigers relied heavily on their ground game and dominant defense against the Cobras on the road.Greene head coach Terrance Banks thought his team did better this week at executing the “small things.

Lady Titans find themselves in win column

Lake Oconee Academy softball found the win column after taking down Oglethorpe County 9-3 last week.The Lady Titans were winless in their first five games of the season but put everything together against the Lady Patriots.

Georgia to open season in Atlanta against Clemson

Top-ranked Georgia will begin its season Aug. 31 against No. 14 Clemson at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.Three years ago, the Bulldogs topped the Tigers 10-3 in a defensive battle at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Titans improve to 2-0 with big win over George Walton

Lake Oconee Academy cruised to a 21-3 victory over George Walton Academy last Friday, improving to 2-0 on the year.This is the first time in program history that the Titans have started a season 2-0 and secured a win over George Walton.

Tigers to tangle with Rebels in Tallapoosa

Greene County (2-0) will travel to northwest Georgia this Friday to play Haralson County. It will be the first meeting ever between these teams.The Rebels of Tallapoosa are off to a 1-1 start after going 2-8 last season under former coach Scott Peavey.

Titans ground Eagles in season opener

Lake Oconee Academy returned to action last Friday, taking on Mount Paran Christian in the 2024 season opener.With the Titans now eligible for postseason play, starting the season off on the right foot was a big deal to third-year head coach Patrick Stewart.
