Lake Oconee Academy is 2-0 for the first time in school history and is looking to keep its momentum going as it takes on Hancock Central this Friday.
Coming off a huge win over George Walton Academy, coach Patrick Stewart was excited his team is off to a great start.
“We’ll enjoy it, and then we’ll move on to next week,” Stewart said. “It goes by really quick.”
Hancock Central is 1-1 on the season so far and is coming off a 26-0 loss to Jasper County. The Bulldogs’ only win came against Glenn Hills in week one.
This will be the first time Hancock Central and Lake Oconee Academy have played each other on the gridiron.
So far this season, the Titans’ bright spot has been their defense. Over two games, they’ve only given up 275 total yards, while their offense has gained 449 total yards.
“They played really hard,” Stewart said. “When you can rely on your defense, it makes things so much easier. There are always things to get better on, but they’re playing really good right now.”
LOA’s defense forced three more turnovers against George Walton, adding to its season total of seven. This Friday, the Titans will face the Bulldogs’ triple-option, the same scheme GWA ran last week.
As LOA turns the page to Hancock Central, the team's health is good.
“We’ll be banged up a little bit, but we’re going to go in pretty healthy,” Stewart said.
LOA’s offense in week one against Mount Paran Christian wasn’t the same as it was against George Walton last week. The Titans moved the ball consistently and scored a season-high 21 points last Friday.
Lake Oconee Academy is now focused on keeping up that consistency, especially on offense, against Hancock Central.
“I believe we’ll go in with great preparation like this week and keep this thing rolling,” Stewart said.
