Beamer Bound: Kilgore to Carolina

Eatonton, Ga. — Putnam County’s Jalon Kilgore has made his college decision.  The 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety committed to the University of South Carolina on Wednesday. According to the 247Sports Composite, Kilgore is ranked the No. 442 overall player and the No. 43 safety.

MCHS hosts youth basketball camp

The Morgan County Lady Bulldogs’ basketball program hosted a “Back to the Basics” youth camp from June 6-10 in the school’s gymnasium. Every morning from 8 a.m. to noon, first through seventh grade boys and girls have been learning the fundamentals of basketball in a variety of ways.

Stamps enters transfer portal after two seasons at Lipscomb

Ethan Stamps has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal after playing the last two seasons with the Lipscomb Bison. The former Morgan County standout announced his plans via Twitter. “I want to thank Lipscomb University for the past two years,” he said.

Ciavola named Region 8A-Public Player of the Year

Lake Oconee Academy’s Cooper Ciavola recently earned the honor of being named the Region 8A-Public Player of the Year after the Titans’ state championship win at Berry College earlier this month.

FAMILY TIES: Thomas joins older brother at Montevallo

Recent Morgan County graduate Will Thomas signed with the University of Montevallo Falcons last month to continue his fishing career into college. Thomas is just the third Morgan County angler to ever take his skills to the collegiate level since the program started back in 2016.

Baxley leaving LOA for new position

Lake Oconee Academy girls’ soccer coach Jacob Baxley recently announced that he has taken another job at Clarke Central High School in Athens. He will be the new CCHS girls’ soccer coach and will also be teaching at the school in the fall.

Ingram granted waiver by NCAA to play another season

Georgia forward Jailyn Ingram has been granted a waiver by the NCAA for another year of eligibility, according to a report published on Tuesday by Anthony Dasher of UGASports.com. Ingram will be entering his seventh and final season at the collegiate level in 2022-23.

Dairy Festival 5K brings runners from all over Georgia

The Dairy Festival begins bright and early each year with a race kicking off the day’s events. Formerly a 10K race called the ‘Torture Trail’ hosted by Farmers and Merchants Bank, this year’s race was hosted by the Eatonton Pilot Club. It is now known as the ‘Dairy Festival 5K Road Race.

Finest barrel racing east of the Mississippi is in Putnam

The 30th Annual Putnam County Classic, hosted by the Manley family, was in full effect this summer. The event took place from June 3-6 at the Manley Arena in Putnam County. This event has been taking place since the tornado of 1992.
