Morgan County shows out at state meet

Morgan County track and field sent 13 athletes to the Class AAA state meet in Albany this past week. Out of all the Bulldogs that made it to Albany for the state meet, three placed in four events. Senior Josh Jones won his third-consecutive state title in the 300-meter hurdles.

Morgan, Greene wrap up spring football with scrimmages

A pair of Lake Country area football programs – Class AAA’s Morgan County and Class A Division II’s Greene County – wrapped up spring practices this week with scrimmages against other programs.

The Lake Oconee Academy boys’ soccer team had its postseason cut short after making it to the state quarterfinals for a second straight year.

Multiple Tigers hit personal records at state meet

After a successful track-and-field season for both programs, Greene County sent 15 boys and nine girls to the GHSA Class A Division II state meet last Saturday in Columbus. The Tigers placed high in multiple events throughout the day, but the biggest result came in the 4x100-meter relay.

Ainslie reflects on time at Morgan County

Morgan County head coach Merritt Ainslie will not be returning next season after eight years at the helm. The Lake Oconee News reached out to Ainslie for comment and he reflected on his time with the Bulldogs. “Baseball is what gets inside you, lights you up,” Ainslie stated.

Greene County track and field preps for state meet

At the end of April, Greene County track and field was preparing for a region championship. Now, the Tigers are getting ready for this weekend’s GHSA Class A Division II state championship meet in Columbus.

Wildcats sweep Titans in Sweet 16

ELLAVILLE – Lake Oconee Academy’s baseball season came to an end last week at Schley County. The Wildcats swept the Titans on Thursday, advancing to the next round of the Class A Division II playoffs. Schley County took game one by a score of 6-0 over Lake Oconee Academy.

Lake Oconee FCA hosts inaugural golf tournament

The Lake Oconee area chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) hosted its inaugural charity golf tournament on Monday at Reynolds Lake Oconee, with more than 100 golfers participating.
