Smith: Remembering Missouri summers

Owing to a golf friendship, there was an annual trip to Kansas City in June for several years, which allowed me the opportunity to explore the Show Me State, which reminded me so much of our own Peach State. Missouri and Georgia feature almost identical geography.

Championship bicycle racing debuts in Eatonton

During the Dairy Festival weekend in Eatonton (June 3-4), the Georgia State Championship Cycling Festival also came to town. It was especially exciting for the family of Dylan Lindsey, who competed in both the criterium race and the road race.

Jackson inks with Lions to continue clay target career

Morgan County’s Mason Jackson recently signed his letter of intent to be on the clay target team at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs. The recent graduate has been shooting ever since the fourth grade, and he told the Lake Oconee News how he fell in love with the sport.

Titans win state, receive All-State honors

The Lake Oconee Academy boys' golf program was recently able to follow up its impressive performance in the area tournament with dominant showings in this year’s GHSA Class A Division II state championship.

Diamond Dogs rack up Region 4-AAA honors

Despite a disappointing end to the year, the Morgan County baseball team had a successful 2023 season. The Diamond Dogs also racked up a lot of postseason awards, with a lot of players landing spots on the All-Region 4-AAA First and Second Teams. There were also a few individual awards won as well.

Black earns POTY honors after freshman season

Kallyn Black is a rising sophomore at Lake Oconee Academy and is a member of the Lady Titans golf team. Even though she’s been playing at the high school level for only a year, Black has already made a great impact on the program.

Johnson tabbed as Tigers’ new offensive coordinator

Before heading into spring camp, Greene County’s football program hired former Mary Persons wide receiver coach Michael Johnson to be its new offensive coordinator for the 2023 season.

Chamberlain overcomes adversity to help lead Bulldogs, earn GACA All-State honor

Morgan County’s Scott Chamberlain dealt with a different injury for each of the first three years of high school, and as he headed into his senior season this past spring, he was hoping for a different result.
