Greene County football senior Kevin Wynn has decided where to continue his career on the gridiron.
Wynn, a highly-rated defensive tackle for the Tigers, committed to Florida State on Monday following his official visit to Tallahassee over the weekend. He chose the Seminoles over Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas.
The 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle told a site on the Rivals network that FSU felt like “home.”
“It felt like home,” Wynn told TheOsceola.com. “I feel like I fit right into the defensive scheme. With Coach (Odell) Haggins, I know he’s not going [anywhere] because he’s been here for 30-plus years. They run a four-down front, which is similar to what we play already. Basically, the same thing I do in high school.”
Florida State was one of the first schools to offer Wynn, and his recruitment took off afterward. Other top programs include Southern Cal, LSU, Miami (FL), Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan, and Texas.
During his official visit to Tallahassee, Wynn met with head coach Mike Norvell, who laid out the plan for Wynn in Florida State’s defensive scheme. Due to his versatility, the Seminoles plan to use Wynn all over the line.
According to TheOsceola.com, Florida State led much of the Greensboro native’s recruitment process.
“I know they’ve been the first for a lot of things,” Wynn said. “The first to offer, the first game I had been to, first for a lot of things. Getting to see the other side (of FSU) was better than seeing the side I see on the football field. It showed me a different perspective. How close they are as a family. Everything is so genuine.”
Wynn led Greene County in tackles last season with over 70 and 30 tackles for loss. He was dominant on the defensive line, helping the Tigers go 10-2 and reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time in five years.
Wynn earned All-State honors from Recruit Georgia. He was also named the Class A Division II Region 8 Defensive Player of the Year. Wynn will potentially earn more honors for his performance on the field as a senior.
Wynn has shined for Greene County the past few seasons under rising third-year head coach Terrance Banks.
“I’m super proud of Kevin for putting himself in a situation where he can succeed,” Banks said. “He’s worked hard to get to where he is now, and Florida State is getting a great player. [Kevin] will fit in well there.”
