William F. “Bill” Nelson age 76 passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Piedmont Athens Regional. Bill was born March 4, 1946 to the late James and Lorene (Stells) Nelson. He was one of six children. In 1975, Bill met the love of his life, Deborah Crowe.
They spent the next fortyseven years building a life together. Bill always dreamed of owning a farm. In 1980, the Nelsons moved to Greene County.
Some of Bill’s best memories involved riding a tractor and dealing with the livestock.
When Bill was four years old, his mother found him with her disassembled pedal sewing machine. This event foreshadowed his future as a gifted mechanic. He worked for John Deere in Madison, GA and Southeastern Uni-Loader in Greensboro, GA. He also enjoyed working on his own cars.
Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted brother and uncle. He was a believer in Jesus Christ’s grace and salvation and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville, GA.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Crowe Nelson; sister, Doris Hickman; brother, James Douglas (Norma) Nelson; brother-in-law, John Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James Benson and Bessie Lorene (Stells) Nelson; a brother, John Nelson; and sisters, Betty Cochran and Wanda Davis.
Funeral Services were Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Visitation was held at the church from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Smith, Tim Hunter, Doug Nelson, Jr., Bobby Crowe, Jr. Dusty Chictwood and Devin Sadler. Graveside services were held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Lower Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery, 3528 Swallows Creek Rd., Hiawassee, GA 30546 with Rev. Danny Burch officiating. Pallbearers were Craig Harrell Glen Hicks, Chris Phillips, Coot Owens, Pat Kimsey and Bobby Crowe, Jr.
