Tony Lucas

Tony Lucas, age 72, of Greensboro, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Magan Louise Lucas; his parents, Thomas C.

Lucas and Peggy Criswell Lucas, and his brothers, Tommy C. Lucas and John C. Lucas.

He is survived by his wife, Fran Jones Lucas; his children, Kim Lucas, Tony Lucas II, and Natalie Lucas; and his granddaughter, Harper Lucas.

Tony was born and raised in Conyers and leaves a legacy of 40 years of service with the City of Conyers, including roles integral to the community’s growth and progress, most notably Chief of Police, City Manager, and Director of Public Safety. As Chief, Tony was responsible for planning and executing safety and security for the Georgia International Horse Park prior to and during the 1996 Olympic Games.

Lucas participated in extensive training with the Israeli Police, the Hungarian National Police in Budapest, and with the British Police in England. Lucas was the lead executive for Conyers on the Olympic Security Support Group, a planning committee comprising federal, state, and local officials, responsible for security at the 1996 Olympic Games at the GIHP, the largest venue and the second most attended. 

Tony served the local and law enforcement communities in numerous ways throughout his career. Lucas has served on organizations such as the Atlanta Metropolitan, the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police, where he was a longtime member of the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Committee. He was a graduate of the 166th session of the F.B.I. National Academy.

He served as a board member for the Atlanta Area Council on Battered Women, Rockdale Emergency Relief, Rockdale County Board of Health, and United Way.

Tony was an integral part of his community and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Tony loved golfing, skiing, and waterskiing, and was an avid UGA fan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. with Chaplain Mark Overstreet officiating at Scot Ward Funeral Services.
