Rosalyn Blanche Amick Carson of Eatonton, GA, formerly of Fayette County, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA.
She was born June 12, 1941, in Batesburg, SC, to the late Hubert Ray Amick and Sarah Eleanor Johnson Amick. She was 83. Rosalyn married John Robert “Jack” Carson on June 7, 1964, at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in West Columbia, SC, and they had two sons.
Over the years, Rosalyn attended Hyatt Park Elementary School in Columbia, SC, Brookland Grammar School in West Columbia, SC, and Brookland Cayce Junior High in Cayce, SC.
She graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1959. She also attended Newberry College in Newberry, SC (1959-1961), and Columbia College in Columbia, SC (1961-1963), and graduated from West Georgia College in 1997, where she received her Master’s.
She was a member of the Honor Society and an Honor Graduate of high school. She was also on the Newberry College Dean’s List and Newberry College Players.
During her working career, she taught for the Fayette County Georgia Board of Education as an Elementary School Teacher from 1976 to 2000, when she retired. She was a member of the Fayette County Retired Educators Association, Lake Oconee Humane Society, Rivers Alive, Lake Oconee Water Watch, and Lake Oconee Homeowners Association. As of 2024, they had lived in Putnam County for nineteen years. She had also lived in Peachtree City, GA, Atlanta, GA, and West Columbia, SC. While living in Eatonton, she was a member of Lake Oconee Lutheran Church and a past member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church while living in Peachtree City.
In addition to her husband of sixty years, John Robert “Jack” Carson of Eatonton, GA, survivors include two sons, Anthony “Tony” Carson and wife Joy of Apex, NC, and Jonathan “Jon” Carson and wife Jamie of Peachtree City, GA; two grandchildren, Izaak Carson of Hickory, NC and James Carson of Peachtree City, GA; sisters, Harriet Anderson and husband A.P. of Cope, SC and Miriam Sekhon and husband Jas of Lexington, KY; brother, William “Bill” Amick of Lexington, KY; nephews and nieces: Jeff Anderson, Mark Anderson, Ryan Amick, Jason Sekhon, Traysie Amick, Shannon Osborne and Ashley Sekhon; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Sue Amick.
The family will hold a funeral service at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA 31024, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, with Pastor Steve Hayden officiating. They will receive family and friends one hour before the service.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Lake Oconee Humane Society, 1010 Park Avenue, Suite 101, Greensboro, GA 30642. Rosalyn will be buried at Elmwood Memorial Gardens, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201, on Friday, October 18, 2024, at noon, McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
