Rev. James Amaziah “Jackie” Perkins, Jr.

Rev. James Amaziah “Jackie” Perkins, Jr., 74, of Evans, GA, formerly of Greensboro, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Piedmont Augusta Hospital. 

Born on January 28, 1950, in Greensboro, GA, he was the son of the late James Amaziah “Jack” Perkins, Sr., and Martha Tuggle Perkins. 

In 1968, he graduated from Greene County High School. He then received a BS from Georgia Southern and continued his education, receiving his Master of Divinity at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1976 and his Doctorate at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994.

While in college, Jackie played bass in a Christian rock band that toured the U.S. His hobby was spending time with his family. He enjoyed sports, the Beatles, playing guitar, making people laugh, and returning to his hometown of Greensboro.

After seminary, Jackie engaged in full-time pastoral ministry for 50 years, retiring in January of 2020. He was also an author. On August 4, 1973, Jackie married the former LeAnne Cobia in Savannah, Georgia.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, LeAnne Perkins of Evans, GA, he is survived by his children, daughter, Erika and Jason Bible of Grovetown, GA; sons, Todd and Brooke Perkins of Greenville, SC; and Ethan and Brandy Perkins of Greenville SC; sisters, Kathy and Dene Channell of Greensboro GA and Jyllin and Wayne Bradshaw of Athens GA; ten grandchildren Rivers, Caelan, Haleigh, Ryleigh, Kamber, London, Sylas, Judah, Sawyer and Loxley. Funeral Services were held Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Warren Baptist Church, 323 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907, with Pastor Todd Perkins officiating. 

The family received friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Warren Baptist Church. Julian Hutchins, Dene Channell, David Cobia, Jason Bible, Todd Perkins, and Ethan Perkins were serving as pallbearers. Dennis Cook served as an honorary pallbearer. 

A Graveside service was held in Greensboro at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery, 2830 Highway 15 South, Greensboro, GA, at 3:30 p.m., McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, was in charge of arrangements.
