Larry Smith

Larry Smith, beloved husband, father, son, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was a man of great strength and purpose, with a “never quit” attitude. His winning spirit, combined with a soft-spoken, kindhearted nature, touched every endeavor he undertook and everyone he loved.

He graduated from Greene County High School in 1967, where he distinguished himself on the gridiron with true grit and hustle. After graduation, he attended the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Born to loving parents, Weldon and Marjorie Smith, on December 19, 1948, Larry developed a passion for golf at an early age. A fierce competitor, he won many tournaments at Greene County Country Club, where he also served for many years on the board of directors and as club president.

He channeled his love for community into early careers in banking and insurance. In his continued effort to improve the lives of those around him, Larry served multiple terms on the Greensboro City Council and was active in the Rotary Club.

One of his greatest joys was working alongside his son Bo at Larry’s beloved Drag Strip Farm.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Donna; sons Brad (Karen) and Bo (Missy); grandchildren Sam, Leah, Bentley, Grayson, Miller, and Willow; brother Cliff (Bernie) and sister Cecily (John). His constant companion in recent years was his dog, Benjie. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Isabella “Bella” Smith.

Larry’s family will hold a service celebrating his life at Greensboro First Methodist Church (North Campus) on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
