Douglas Dean Rigdon

Douglas Dean Rigdon, 76, of Greensboro, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. 

Born Aug. 28, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois, he was the son of the late Loren Dean Rigdon and Mary Ann Pree Rigdon.

Douglas graduated from Western Illinois University, where he was an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

On Aug. 21, 1971, he married Deborah Dawson in Springfield.

A prominent figure in the insurance industry, Douglas served as chairman and CEO of Rigdon & Gioia Ltd. until his retirement in 2009. He and his wife moved from Naperville, Illinois, to Greensboro 13 years ago, where he became an active member of Greensboro First Methodist Church and the local Elks Lodge.

Among his greatest joys was spending time with those he loved, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Deborah Dawson Rigdon; his daughter, Lindsay McLeroy (Corey) of Bishop; his son, Christopher Rigdon (Colleen) of Naperville; his sister, Diana Copper (Jim); and his cherished grandchildren, Brody, Addison, and Christopher Rigdon of Naperville, along with William, Logan, and Kyle McLeroy of Bishop. Many other relatives and dear friends also survive him.

A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Greensboro First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Hugh Hendrickson officiating. Visitation was held from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service.

Following the service, a reception was held at Harbor Club Clubhouse.

Arrangements were entrusted to McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro.
