Lake Oconee Academy is used to winning.
The Titans recently won their third-straight Class A Division II Georgia Athletic Directors Association’s Cup. The Titans also dominated the competition, winning both the Female Director’s Cup and the Male Director’s Cup.
Every academic school year, the GADA Director’s Cup gives points to schools based on their postseason play across all Georgia High School Association championship sports. The standings consider each school’s top-eight scoring sports for both boys and girls. To be part of the standings, the school’s athletic director or a representative must be a current member of the GADA.
Lake Oconee Academy dominated the Director’s Cup standings with 1,036 points, winning by a landslide. Metter scored 865 points in second place, and GMC Prep finished third with 762 points.
LOA athletic director Chris Ingle was proud of his athletes’ accomplishments this past school year.
“Winning the GADA Director’s Cup for the third year in a row is nothing but a testament to hard work,” Ingle told the Lake Oconee News. “To understand the level of personal dedication and commitment that it takes to win state championships and make deep runs in the playoffs is impossible unless you see it with your own eyes. These student-athletes have been committed to their sport year-round for years. Some of the very best have barely had a day off in more than 10 years.”
This past school year, LOA won 11 region championships, four state titles, and had two runner-ups in their respective sports.
The school won state championships in competitive cheer, boys’ and girls’ golf, and boys’ soccer.
Ingle also thanked the school’s hardworking coaches and administrators.
“Just as importantly, their coaches give up almost 100 percent of their personal time and give it to their teams,” LOA’s athletic director said. “I truly want to thank the families of our players and coaches for their unending support. I also want to thank Dr. Otho Tucker, my former CEO, and Mark Lipscomb, our former board chair for giving me a chance in this job and for the incredible financial support as we took the athletics program from two or three JV teams to the best athletic program in the state three years in a row. I could not be more thankful to be a part of that.”
