The Madison Police Department has been awarded a $41,710 Technology Grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to improve the accuracy and efficiency of crash data reporting to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The grant will upgrade the department's tools and technology, enhancing its efforts to promote roadway safety and reduce traffic crashes in Madison and the surrounding areas.
“This grant is a major step forward for our department and the community we serve,” said Chief of Police John McIlvaine. “With these resources, we can ensure more reliable crash reporting, which will allow us to make data-driven decisions to address problem areas and improve road safety for everyone in Madison.”
Allen Poole, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, highlighted the importance of traffic safety initiatives supported by the grant.
“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant," said Poole. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives to bring us one step closer to our goal.”
The Madison Police Department uses these grant funds to improve local traffic safety. By upgrading the tools used to analyze and report crash data, the department can identify high-risk areas better and allocate resources more effectively.
This investment underscores the department’s ongoing commitment to protecting the lives of all who travel Madison’s roads and supporting statewide efforts to eliminate traffic fatalities.
