Mary Ruth Strahl Allen, 95, of Greensboro, GA, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024.
She was a resident at The Glen in Greensboro, Georgia. She was born in Escanaba, MI, on July 16, 1929, the daughter of the late Maurice Stewart Strahl and Ruth Esther Judson Strahl. She graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree.
On Dec. 28, 1952, she married Robert Elwood Allen in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. During her career, she enjoyed many positions on multiple ships of the Alaskan Marine Highway System. While on the ships, she met people from Russia and New Zealand, creating friendships that provided opportunities to visit these friends worldwide. All knew her to be a brave, kind, and independent trailblazer! She was very talented at woodworking, creating wooden inlay stools, treasure boxes for her grandchildren, and numerous other keepsakes. Mary Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a faithful friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elwood Allen, and her two brothers, Maury Strahl of Grand Junction, CO, and John Schuyler Strahl of Midland, Michigan.
Survivors include her daughters, Lyndon Allen Jamison (Joel Wernick) of Greensboro, GA, and Julie Allen Smith (Edward) of Eatonton, GA; sons Robert Judson Allen (Lisa) of New Era, MI, and Jan Schuyler Allen of Cumming, GA; grandchildren: Lauren Jamison Cole (Jason) of Milton, GA, Jessy Schuyler Jamison (Halley Manning) of Atlanta, GA, Justin Smith (Kaelyn) of Brookhaven, GA, Margaret Lyndon Bradley (Matthew) of Roswell, GA, Simon Allen (Melissa) of Cumming, GA and Arrin Allen of Dawsonville, GA; great-grandchildren: Anna Claire, Miller and Marin Cole of Milton, GA, Finn and Adler Manning of Atlanta, GA, Avery Smith of Brookhaven, GA, Copeland, Baker and Collier Bradley of Roswell, GA and Jack and Owen Allen of Cumming, GA. She is also survived by a cousin, Mio Johnson, of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister-in-law, Nancy Allen Sellers, of DeWitt, Michigan; other relatives; and many friends.
A private family Celebration of Mary Ruth’s life will be held in Alpharetta, Georgia.
