Diane Gillen Parker

Diane Gillen Parker of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at her residence with her family. Born in Lake City, Florida on October 8, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Hal Paul Gillen and Maude Dukes Gillen. In 1954, she graduated from Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida, and in 1975 earned her Bachelor’s Degree and later received a Master’s Degree from Georgia College.

After college, she began her career in teaching and retired from the Greene County Board of Education. She taught various subjects from seventh grade up. On September 7, 1956, she married Loyd Vernon Parker who was a native of Greene County.

At the time of his death in 2021 they had been married sixty-five years. Diane was a faithful and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, where she sang in the choir and taught in AWANA. Reading and History were among her favorite pastimes.

Diane is survived by two sons, Patrick Parker (Judy) and Paul Parker; daughter, Teresa Diane Parker Simpson; grandchildren: Patrick Robert Parker (Priscilla), Casie Tran Darley, Candice Tran Brake, Tiffany Bridges, Chaney Sagle, Wendy Diane Simpson, Melissa Jean Gray, Anna Nichole Davis, Dylan Richard Lederer, Desi’Rae Nichole Lederer, and James Daniel Parker (Leighalle); sister, Paula Gillen Akins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Vernon Parker; her son, Wade Parker; grandson, Jeremy Michael Simpson; and brother-in-law, Bascom Ray Akins.

Funeral Services will be held, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Mark Jones and Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. The interment will be in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, Georgia 30642. Serving as pallbearers are James Parker, Landon Parker, Patrick Parker, Hal Akins, Jonathan Akins, and Mike Simpson.
