Four-county chase ends in arrest of New York woman

A Rochester, New York, woman was arrested on multiple charges after leading law enforcement agencies on a chase involving deputies from four counties on Oct. 10.

Chasity Chanel Campbell, 37, of 934 Post Avenue, faces charges of three counts of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, giving a false name or address to a police officer, four counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer, three counts of interference with government property, two counts of speeding, reckless driving, two counts of failure to obey a traffic control device driving without a license.

According to reports, Deputy Guy Hewell joined the pursuit of a Silver 2018 Acura MDX that began in Butts County and entered into Greene County from Putnam County on Hwy 44 northbound.

Deputy Michael Holloway joined in the pursuit as it entered the Greensboro city limits.

The vehicle then turned left onto I-20 westbound and accelerated to speeds in excess of 115 miles per hour while also “recklessly failing to maintain its lane,” the report said. The vehicle traveled into Morgan County and left the interstate at Seven Islands Road. When it did, Morgan County Deputy Bo Kelley joined the chase when he saw the Acura being pursued by three Greene County patrol units.

The Acura immediately got back on the interstate heading east, continuing to travel at high speeds and weaving across the lanes.

The vehicle then traveled back into Greene County where a deputy unsuccessfully tried to deploy spike strips at milepost 130.

The pursuit then continued toward Taliaferro County. Once the pursuit reached milepost 140, Hewell passed the Acura in order to set up spike strips ahead of it.

Kelley, Holloway and Hewell were able to box in the Acura and get it slowed down.

Eventually, the Acura struck the rear of Hewell’s patrol vehicle and then struck the driver’s side of Kelley’s patrol unit.

Once the vehicle struck Kelley’s patrol vehicle, Holloway’s patrol vehicle made contact with the rear driver’s side of the Acura, coming to a rest against the driver’s side doors.

The driver immediately exited the vehicle and placed her hands in the air, because Holloway already had her at gunpoint and ordered her to the ground.

Campbell was then handcuffed and placed in the back seat of Holloway’s patrol unit.
